Brief Biography of Pr LANGH SAWM MANG
Early life (1945 – 53)
Langh Sawm Mang was born and brought up in the Baptist family on November 12, 1945 at Kaptel Village, Tedim Township, Chin State, Myanmar to Tual Thawng and Zel Khaw Zen. They were cultivators by birth and lived at Kaptel village. The Tual Thawng had (6) children: Khup Khan Thang (M), Ging Za Ning (F), Tel Lian Nang (M), Ngak Don Cing (F), Langh Sawm Mang and Tual Khan Pau (M).
Education and Marriage
Langh Sawm Mang spent his early childhood life and studied at Kaptel State Middle School from Primary to 7th standard (1953 – 60), and from 8th standard through 10th at Seventh-day Adventist High School, Kyauttaing, Toungoo. He passed High School final (HSF), equivalent to Matriculation and also Division School Leaving Certificate (DSLC) in March 1964. After that he continued on to special Ministerial Training Course (SMTC) at Myanmar Union Bible Seminary, Myaungmya (1964-65).
On October 30, 1967, Langh Sawm Mang married Vung Ngaih Lian at Cikha village, Tonzang Township, Chin State. The Langh Sawm Mang had (8) children: Zen Khan Ning (F), Niang Khawl Cing (F), Cing Lam Mang (F), Man Don Lun (F), Thawng Suan Dim (F), Hau Sian Don (F), Sian Suan Mung (M), and Cing Zam Niang (F). The offspring of Langh Sawm Mang: (18) grandchildren.
Career/Ministry
Langh Sawm Mang’s initial employment was a teacher for (1) year (1965 – 66), at Seventh-day Adventist Primary School, Taungbawsu Village, Myaungmya Township, Delta-Ayeyarwaddy Region, Myanmar. Compositor (Tedim Chin) for (1) year 1966-67), Kinsaung Press, 72 U Wisara Road, Yangon, Myanmar; Evangelist for (1) year (1967-68) Cikha village, Tonzang Township, Chin State; Bonus worker and translator for (3) years (1970-73) at Tedim, Chin State; Pastor and Circle leader for (11) years (1974-84) Tonzang District and Cikha Church; Ministerial Director for (7) years (1985-91) Upper Myanmar Mission, Pyinoolwin, Mandalay Region; Director, Voice of Prophecy Correspondence School, 72 U Wisara Road Yangon for (1) year (1992); and In-service upgrading (B. A. in Religion) (1993-94), Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary, Myaungmya and graduated with B. A. Degree in March 1994; Principal, Upper Myanmar Adventist Seminary, Siyinywa, Kalaymyo Township, Sagaing Region for (1) year; Executive Secretary, Upper Myanmar Mission for (5) years (1997-2001) in Pyinoolwin, Mandalay Region; From 2002-05, Sabbath School and Personal Ministries Director for (4) years at Myanmar Union Mission Headquarter, Yangon; President, South East Mission, Mawlamyine, Mon State in (2006-2007) for a year.
Contribution and Legacy
Langh Sawm Mang had many contributions for the Adventist Church and also for the Baptist Church organization in Myanmar. He was a member of Zomi Baptist Convention (ZBC) gospel songs producing committee and also a member of Biblical translation on Tedim Chin dialect from Revised Standard Version. In 1989, Langh Sawm Mang and Suak Khaw Ngin printed out Counsels for the Church volume 1 and Step to Christ in Tedim dialect at Kinsaung Press, Yangon. The 2 volume for Counsels for the Church was printed out in 1990. He translated and compiled the Zomi Adventist Hymnal in September 2, 1990, and the Adventist Church Manual in December 22, 1991. He was also a regular translator of Sabbath School quarterlies Lessons in Zokam dialect till his last breath.
Later Life
Langh Sawm Mang served the Seventh-day Adventist Church denomination in various capacities for 37 long years. He finally retired on December 2007. He and his dearly beloved wife with dependent children settled down permanently in Yangon, Myanmar. Then on September 27, 2009 at 15:30 pm he peacefully rest for heavenly home at the age of 64.
Author: Do Hen Pau was born on 5.3.1945 to Thuam Cin and Cing Khaw Lian at Khuasak Village, Tiddim Township, Chin State, Myanmar. He studied in Mission schools and completed his further studies at Spicer Memorial College. He worked in various capacities from 1.1.1969 to 31.12.2010 as Evangelist, Assistant Pastor, Translator, Bookkeeper/Accountant, Secretary-Treasurer, Assistant Union Treasurer, Union Treasurer and manager of Kinsaung Publishing House.
